about moksa yoga
Mokṣa (mok-sha) is a Sanskrit word that in it’s most spiritual form refers to freedom or liberation from saṃsāra, the cycle of death and rebirth. Some texts take a more psychological approach to the definition to include; freedom from limitations due to lack of awareness leading to self-discovery/self-knowing as well as freedom from physical or psychological pain and suffering.
My name is Karissa Brown and I founded moksa yoga with the goal of empowering people to deeply know and heal themselves through the practice of yoga.
I started practicing yoga in 2008 in hopes of relieving the back pain I was experiencing everyday. What started as a physical practice quickly turned into much more when I found Anusara® yoga a few years later. Wanting to deepening my relationship with both the physical and spiritual practice I completed a 200hr teacher training in 2012.
Through the teachings of Anusara® yoga, both physical and spiritual I have made big shifts in my life. The back pain I experienced for years is gone and I no longer need to take pain medication daily. Through the spiritual teachings I continue to learn me more about myself and the world we live in than I ever imagined. I teach yoga not only because it is my passion but because I wants to share what I have learned with others. My goal is to empower my clients to heal themselves physically, mentally and spiritually.
